I mean, clearly this is a Kirk story, but it really made me think about how Spock's behaviour and mindset fits into the whole universe.
Logic is only the be-all when it's tempered by putting life first, is what I now feel about Kirk. And it just puts so much TOS in a different context, with Kirk continually showing his commitment to saving people over and over and why it's important.
Anyway, this fic just made me sort of reinterpret all of Star Trek for myself (Spock's movie character arc! The many for the one! aww).
